Twelve Days of Anime, Post 3: Watched Clannad

Twelve Days of Anime, Post 3: Watched Clannad

By super rats on December 16, 2010

Watching Clannad makes me wish I wasn’t such an ass in high school. For me, that’s where the fantasy in Clannad lies, not the cute girls. I really don’t have this urge to protect or rape the girls of Clannad as the prevailing Pavlovian “tastes great!” vs. “less filling!” response mechanism regarding moe goes on [...]

Lucky Star, Moe for What?

Lucky Star, Moe for What?

By super rats on April 15, 2009

Having finished Lucky Star recently, I get that it relies a bit on moe to carry it, but moe for what? Lucky Star offers a lot of things to go moe on, cute girls for one, that’s pretty standard, otakuisms for another (are those not cute and inept too?). For me in particular, Lucky Star [...]

Finished Kanon

Finished Kanon

By super rats on January 12, 2009

There was a bit of a snag in the last volume of the Kanon (2006) dvd release here in the United States, so I pushed off watching the last disc until I could marathon through the whole series when it was nice and cold. Kanon seems better watched wrapped up in blankets during December than [...]

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV)

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV)

By super rats on June 9, 2008

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV) is much better than the first FMP! series. I had to force myself to finish the first one. The main villain was way over-used and I couldn’t wait for him to get off the screen, but he was real chatty and annoying, so he just wouldn’t go away. [...]

I Had No Idea Kanon Was this Funny

I Had No Idea Kanon Was this Funny

By super rats on April 15, 2008

I avoided reading anything on Kanon when it was airing. Pretty much, I thought Kanon would be a solid tear-jerker like Air, something that had a light hearted bit thrown in here and there to provide contrast, but really just wanted to make your eyes water. So far after eight episodes, Kanon has had me [...]

Ending Haruhi in the Rain

By super rats on December 18, 2007

Hype is a giant killer. The more furious the proclamations of greatness the more likely the legend will be dead on arrival. A few days ago I finished The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, its battered and bloody, but it survived hype’s special attack and was a fun show for me to watch.
