Yurie Hitotsubashi from Alter

December 7th, 2007

Alter seems to be making some really cute figures that are more akin to the figurines in a card and gift shop than the fan service type figures I usually get. Yurie seems a little less pastel than Hagu, but I still group her with Hagu. Glad to put Yurie in the collection. Kamichu! is one of my favorite shows.

A girl with stars on her umbrella waits all by herself in the park across the station. Morning turns to afternoon, snow starts falling, people hurry to get out of the cold, but she continues to wait for him. Her name is Ureshiko, one of the girls from Max Factory, who in spite of being a very pretty figure escaped a lot of attention.

Melissa Seraphy Up Close
1024×768, 1600×1200

Akihide Maraki’s sculpt of Melissa Seraphy perfectly blends a cute mode giant pumpkin dress with a sassy and sexy demonette. This is a fantastic figure. It is in 1/8 scale and manufactured by the GoodSmile Company. She was recently given a USA release, so snap her up now and get yourself a sweet bfigure that doubles as a Halloween decoration. I definitely believe this is a top tier figure in terms of design, sculpt, and visual appeal, an excellent addition to anyone’s collection, especially when compared with other similarly priced figures.

Tsukuru Shirahige’s sculpt of Shana has her kicking back and snacking on melon-pan. The 1/8 scale figure from Kotobukiya comes with a clear yellow plastic base, which I forgot to take a picture of, but it really doesn’t take too much to imagine a clear plastic disc, so you’re not missing too much by not seeing it here. One of the things I like about a figure in a sitting pose is that they usually don’t need to be attached to the base that comes with it, so there’s flexibility when it comes to displaying it. There was this fuzzy rug I’ve been wanting to use for a while from a Barbie furniture set that I got as a cheap closeout item from WalMart, so now it’s Shana’s display base instead of the boring yellow disc that came with her. The lounge chair, the table, the magazines, and the soda can are also Barbie furniture pieces. Shana does come with a spare melon-pan, however. Read the rest of this entry »

A lot of movies, shows, and books make me sad. The music in my CD collection often makes me depressed, but I like that in music, which means I’m a gloom junkie. Being a gloom junkie, I love the Gunslinger Girl manga and the anime. Gunslinger Girl is one of the few stories that makes me feel a different kind of sadness than what most sad stories give me.
