There are two lights. One from above and one off to the side. I don't really know any of the lighting theories and ratios and stuff like that. The advantage to shooting small things on a tabletop is you can just move around the lights until it looks cool.

thanks :) so you didn't use flash... did you use some diffusers between the figure and your light ?

No flash. The lights are daylight balanced florescent screw in light bulbs which I got at the hardware store (they cost twice as much in a photo store, but do the same thing). I do use a diffuser for both lights. Tracing paper works well as a diffuser, as does really thin white fabric, or translucent plastic.
