The new design apes a Form Code insert. I definitely like a paper feel, instead of a web feel. One of the things I miss from paper to web is the full bleed, though there’s probably a good reason why people don’t run things right to the edge on the web.

The content section of the front page does away with a lot of the meta data. Just a picture and the title. Hopefully, it works out.
The theme was made with the Hybrid theme framework. It took a little time to get used to working with a framework because it does things a little differently. Like instead of deleting a call to an element in the template files, you add code to a function file to ignore an element. At first it was weird doing it that way, but when I realized I might have to do it on three or more page templates, it works out being better, especially since I can see myself toggling things on/off.
So here’s Dark Canti. My first theme.
Anyway, it’s Memorial Day, a holiday, but I’m not going to a barbecue or the beach. I’m off to work.

Seena was too nervous to sit. She already had her sword drawn, feinting here and there at the dark. I told her to sheath it. It was likely that we’d be waiting long into the night and her arm was going to get tired. Any orcs that come wouldn’t be showing up for at least another hour, besides we were just a containment unit. If we were lucky, nothing would come by. I sat on the steps of an abandoned temple and kept watch of the road that was lit only by the light of the moon. We don’t talk much and mostly just wait. They usually stick rookies like Seena to me, because I don’t take it personally when those under my wing die. It’s a shitty thing to be known for.

Akihabara soothes the otaku heart. Can you feel it? The world in Shangri-la somehow becomes a little more real when we follow Kuniko to Akihabara — damn, otaku are annoying people. There, people go about their business and obsess over silly things, not existing solely to live in the shadow of their oppressors. People don’t live to throw down evil; they live to eat barbecue, or sing karaoke, or watch stupid cartoons with loli maids. It’s kind of utopia when a person can get away with a carefree existence, even if it’s just for a little while.

So far, I’m enjoying Saki, but I’m a sucker for tournament stories. Angelic Layer, Princess Nine, and Fighting Spirit have all been on my Top 10 list. What can I say, I like the bittersweet. I don’t know if Saki is on that level and I’m still neutral on the possibility — fan service and a good story are not mutually exclusive. Still, it’s laid down the groundwork for a good tournament show. Saki works as a lead character for this type of show. She’s carrying a weight on her back, and so does her friend Nodoka, but Nodoka carries that weight elsewhere.

It was such a great night, she had to call May, but May’s phone went straight to voice mail. She sat on her bed and had slid her tight jeans down to around her knees when she was prompted to speak. Her feet were cold and felt good trapped inside the still warm pant legs. She tilted back, lifted her legs, and plopped her whole body onto her bed.
“Hey, May. It’s me. I just got in. We all miss you. Are you coming back during break? Anyway, there was this party and the house got so trashed. I felt bad, so me and Trina decided to help clean up. Kasey was there too. She’s doing okay, but her wardrobe is malfunctioning. She needs your help, May. You’ve been away forever. I can’t believe it, May. Next year it’ll be us who’re going away. I still haven’t decided where yet. I got in at my top choice, but I don’t know, it’s so far away. Anyway, hope to see you during the break. Bye.”

Instead of making new content, I decided to rearrange old content. Spring inspires a change. The last two themes I had used paper texture and grunge style, so decided to go with no texture and minimal decoration. Load time should be a lot better, if my host server is running well.
When I first saw this theme it reminded me a little of Eureka Seven, mainly because of the bold use of arial, but now that I’ve done an awful job of cluttering it up, it looks less so.
This theme looks messed up in IE6. Then again, almost every theme hates IE6. Anyway, to the 6% who still use IE6, sorry about the mess.
Edit: Reverted back to Sketch’d.

Episode two was boring and didn’t do much to advance the story or the characters. All we learned was jungles are bad places, people still play lotto, and this is one twisted loli:

I’ll give it a few more episodes. Hopefully, the premise of Shangri-la can survive the production.
