Happy Wedding Azusa

September 13th, 2007

It was almost two in the morning by the time I got home. My head was foggy and just wanted to fall asleep, but needed to unravel a little from the reception, out of the suit, in front of a fan and just clear the swamp from my entire body. Azusa got married. It was the perfect day and Azusa looked spectacular. When she strolled down the aisle and I felt the sweet breeze of her walking past make its way across my face, I thought one of these days I need to get me someone like her, except, you know, larger than 1/6 scale and not an anime or video game character.

Review of Happy Wedding Azusa from Namco

Azusa and Pup 03.jpg This is a limited release figure available in Japan through the 765 Idolmaster site or your favorite shopping service. Azusa is one gloriously heavy PVC beast and easily the heaviest pvc I have. It must be all of the pvc used to make the ruffles and folds on the gown, which is some great eye candy. The shading may be a hair overdone or overdark, but overall a nice paint job with few artifacts.

The clothing over her torso has a bit of gloss to it that is different from the matte finish of her train, which sounds worse when read and may look a little over glossy when taken with a digital camera, but it adds a luster to figure. Plus some wedding gowns I’ve seen seem to use different textures over the tighter fitting torso than the train. All this is to say that I think the gloss there makes her seem more radiant in room light and that the satin gloves are hot.

What I really love about the figure is the scene. It’s cute how the dog is sitting on her train and she’s turned around to see he’s got a note in his mouth. That drum with feet is cute as well. The pose is such that the viewer has to crouch really low to get a direct gaze from Azusa, which can be a problem when taking pictures. Some figures tend to zombie out when the character’s gaze is averted in the main viewing angle, but here the expression is kept warm as there is a scene playing out. The other reason it’s okay is she looks best from the angle of view where Azusa faces partway to the side, making visible the arch of her back while getting a view of her front as well.

Azusa Miura 02.jpg Azusa is screw mounted onto the base, which is made to resemble a red carpet over brick flooring. Her gown looks like it will act as a curtain of support, so it’s likely the figure will stay upright. Not shown is the clear plastic support piece that props up the boquet. The arm holding the flowers is a bit on the pliable side, so to keep the boquet in place over time it will be necessary to use that support piece.

I wouldn’t mind losing the boquet altogether. While the flowers have excellent detail, the colors and the intensity of them are so bright that they pull attention away from Azusa. Her arm would probably not need support without it, but I’m not about to perform surgery on this figure and do something to ruin it, not that it’s something I’d really want to do anyway. She might look a little plain without it.

Overall, Happy Wedding Azusa is a figure I’m very happy to have. I took some of the obligatory close-ups, but she is in wedding mode and so I’ll let Azusa have her day without some perv, me, zooming in on her cleavage.

I know Moy, and so does EMS, who is probably raking in the most dough out of the whole transaction.

Samejima, I googled mojya-san’s post. I had no idea the drum was a clip-on part. Not knowing much about Idolmaster, I thought it was just a cute robot thing at first.

This figure details are superb but something is a miss, I think they concentrated too much on the body and less on the face, I find her face too plain for my likes although the rest compensates for it, grats on getting this magnificent figure

    I agree with that, Belela-san.

  33. super rats Says:

Marmot, lol. With all these guys, leave it to a girl to mention it.

Hey kanna, I take these on my desk, but since I never use my desk for anything else anymore I should come up with a name for it or something.
