Magical Pokan Uma

Posted on August 9, 2007 by super rats in Figure Review

Uma flies before dawn. It is rough waking up that early, but she rises when the rest of the world sleeps so that nobody can see her flight practice. Uma is a witch and not exactly the most adept magical girl. Sometimes Uma finds herself flying upside down, flashing her wears, so she practices alone in the quiet early morning when she’s got the world all to herself. Who knows what sort of thing she’ll need this training for, but I’ll have to wait for the anime come out on region 1 dvd to find out.

Go, Uma! Do your best! We won’t even mind if you accidentally fly upside down once in a while. In all seriousness, her earnestness kind of makes me smile. She screws up. A lot. But, it really doesn’t stop her, god bless ‘er. Like I wished for an iced coffee to cool me down and she accidentally made it snow in the neighborhood. Wow that felt great, but was kind of scary at the same time. What if I had wished for an omelet? I’ll definitely be careful what I wish for from now on.

Review of Max Factory’s Uma from Magical Pokan

Uma was kind of neglected when she was released in October 2006 and definitely did not receive the same amount of attention as her Magical Pokan series mate Pachira. Of course, there just weren’t as many English language figure blogs back then so that might be it, but I definitely feel Uma deserves some attention.

Like Pachira, Uma is a Max Factory 1/7 scale pvc figure. That’s my favorite scale size, MF’s 1/7. Not too big. Not too small. Anyway, the Uma sculpt rocks, so cute the way she looks like she’s struggling to stay on her staff that suddenly appears to have sped when she wasn’t expecting it. Plus, I think the whole outfit is really sweet as well. It would have been a nice if her hand fit around her heart staff a little better instead of leaving some space in between her hand and the staff.

I can’t comment too much on the likeness since I couldn’t find that many images for comparison, but it really doesn’t matter. The uncertain, yet upbeat, facial expression goes well with the rest of the figure, which with the exception of the hand around the staff is a-ok. The unconventional pose adds a good deal of interest that should put it above the ranks of figures that are mainly for fans of the character.

    Go Uma! Go! :D
I really love this stupid witch hehe, and her Japanese voice actress Momoko Saito did a great job for that (she also did Solty).

Awesome picture as usual (erf feel a bit guilty of alway saying the same thing, but dude! that’s really awesome ^^)

I love the lighting on the very first picture, and the 4th make me laugh (really) since I can easily imagine her crossing those “woods” on her staff saying stuff like “ooouuuuaaah” with her funny voice like she usually does when she discovers new things :)

    Ala ala… I like Uma a lot. I like Magipoka a lot ^^

The only thing IMO which would have been better is to have her in her witch outfits, with the hat and coat, but that’s just according my own tastes :)

Tried the anime, but couldn’t get past the first ep, so I didn’t catch much Uma action. Not that it’s a bad anime, it just didn’t fit in with me at the time and with a huge backlog, the anime was passed over others as a result. Will have to resume it one day :)

Really nice pose for the figure, and how the black rabbit thingie looks like it’s being dragged around. Am loving the snow landscape, absolutely sweet.

When I first saw this figure, I had no idea where she was from, but after watching the anime series, I still wasn’t interested in buying Uma, nor Pachira. But still, she is a very colourful figure.

Conservative figure ^-^, which is nice every now and then. I haven’t watched the anime so I ‘m wondering what that black thing is at the end of her staff, is it a black bunny? On another note, thanks for adding my new website to your list ^-^.

    BTW,
You should disable images in your adsense as they dont convert well. Disable images in the adsense block and you will find that conversion goes up soon after.

This is a figure I didn’t pay much attention to, but once again your amazing pics shine light on a great looking figure.
    Is it bad that I also want that backpack ^^;

-I’ve never seen the show and probably won’t ever get to since I doubt this will get picked up for an R1 release. But, I think the design does a good job of revealing a personality.

-The first and last shot I was going for a sunrise and sunset type light. I tried to get a dewey bright glow for the first one and then a warm bath for the last one. Too bad I lost patience with the tripod and handheld some of the purple bg shots, which meant bumping up the ISO (no image stabilization) and increasing noise. I personally like a little noise (even when using a tripod I shoot at 200 ISO to get a little noise), but a lot of people dislike it, so it’s better to not have much.

-Hehee, the heartpack is super cute.

Wow, I think without your wonderful glowing pictures this will slip right pass me. Loved the brilliant colors especially her gradient hair.

Uma is before MaxFac went Ralph on their apparel. I didn’t check to see if stuff came off though. But, I totally agree that Uma is super cute.
