Otakon 2007, Oh Yeah!
Otakon is like one of my favorite times of the year. Panels, tons of useless junk I must buy, and cosplayers, it’s one swirling mess of anime I’ve been looking forward to for a couple of weeks now. The schedule is up. Inevitably, there’s things going on at the same time that I want to see, but with any luck the schedule will change in my favor.

At these things I pretty much jump from panel to panel, spending far more time in panel rooms than everything else combined. Yeah, a lot of the panels are the same thing year after year, same questions, same answers, but to me it’s the aspect of a convention that can’t be done elsewhere — at least companies save a couple of announcements for Otakon, so it’s not all retread city. How does DLW answer these same questions over and over and still look interested? The after dark panels with the voice actors are a blast (way more entertaining than the daytime panels where half the people ask the same question), even if you have no idea who they are, they are entertainers after all.
One of these years, we’ll get to the convention before it starts. There’s always that one early Friday panel that I wish I wasn’t going to miss. This year I hope to hit some of the workshops as well. The early Saturday costume design workshop could be interesting, same with the one on character design. This way I can pretend to be an artist without actually going through the hassle of being one. Crap, I didn’t even mention taking a look at Artists Alley.
So much to do. Somebody clone me!
If anyone feels like meeting up for lunch or whatever else, let’s trade info.

My schedule on Sat should be pretty open minus wanting to check out a few random panels and whatnot. Should we try to do something similar like the anime bloggers did for AX? See how many folks we can round up?

You, dear Sir, are an artist. Except your paintbrush is the camera.
Anyway how nice that its convention season now. Do take some good cosplay pictures for us!

I’m all for rounding up with you guys since I will actually be there this year. YOU DON’T HAVE A CONTACT PAGE, so I’ll dig your e-mail out of the comments later and drop you a line… or you can drop me one. WOO! Conventions.

I’d go but I don’t live anywhere near it >.>
Are you going to be covering the con in a post?

I have my email in the about page, but I added a contact form.
Aya, probably do a con impression type thing when I get back. I’ll bring my laptop down just in case I feel the urge to do coverage though.

Hey rats you should collect your best shots, print them and sell them at a convention, I’m sure you’d make some money. I’d buy one for sure ^^

Maaaan, I’m bringing my G3 instead of my D40 because I am too worried about losing it. Haha.
And I got your e-mail. I’ll shoot you one back later tonight with my info, etc.

Is Otakon like Comiket, but scaled down (a lot)?
I’ve never been to a convention, but I wonder how it is…?

Kyoki: American conventions are a little bit different than Japanese conventions, from what I’ve heard. Not exactly sure how, since I’ve never been to one in Japan and don’t know which one is which, but if Comiket is one of those doujin conventions…Otakon is quite different.
Randall: I’m not sure if I’m bringing my dSLR either, since carrying that with a whole bunch of junk will be a PITA. I’ve brought a camera the last two years and never took a picture though.
Belela-San: That would be fun. Been thinking about printing a little something as a vanity piece.

That’s sort of funny, because I thought about it before reading your e-mail and decided I’d do the exact same thing. Haha. I took one to Acen last year and didn’t touch it the whole time. MUST PACK LIGHT!

Argh, I missed this announcement in the rush of getting everything ready for Otakon!
I am no blogger or something like that, but it would have been nice to know the person behind the most awesome photo blog out there. You sir, are responsible of me buying figures I never intended to in the first place. I still go thru the UJ-14 pictorial every so and then.
I managed to meet Randall and Alex (moyism.com) at least.
Oh well, maybe next year.
