Sweet Dreams Rosanna

Posted on May 16, 2007 by super rats in Figure Review

Rosanna from Sweet Dreams appeared on my doorstep just in time for Shunya Yamashita week, an unofficial official week, but with Mirei-san over at Danny Choo and a couple of posts on Belela-san’s blog (Sera and Yamashita in General), I figure why call it a Shunya party when I can call it a celebration time, so all my friends around the world come on — it’s a celebration. Rosanna looks great. I love her outfit. It’s all wrong from taste to physics, but so right. Rosanna is like take my picture and I’m like let’s do it.

Too bad it was almost three in the morning, so instead of going crazy with background music, I let talk radio whisper to us as we shot. It wasn’t the usual politics, news, infomercial, or sports radio, but weird stuff. Perfect for when the rest of the world is asleep and you’re being otaku creepy with your camera and girly figure.

Anyway, babeage:

Rosanna is so damn ecchi, so excuse me if my camera acted accordingly. Her gravity defying strapless pantsu is a feature of her outfit that I grew overly fascinated with. Editorially speaking, we really only need one such shot as any additional ones just become redundant, but hey it’s the middle of the Shunya Yamashita week. Yamashita, bless his soul strives for a mix of reality with his illustrated babe fantasy. Rosanna has more realistic proportions than most of the babe figurines I get, but the blatant disregard for gravity and garment physics in this situation refreshingly meets with my approval. Got to love it when someone knows when to keep reality and when to ignore it.

I keep saying Yamashita like he’s the only one responsible for this pvc maiden. Sure his Sweet Dreams illustrations provided the inspiration, but these pvc figures don’t sculpt themselves. Figure sculptors are artists in their own right. The figures revealed so far have been hit or miss for me. Design-wise I favor Rosanna as I tend to favor sword weilding babes and she looks well proportioned, if you know what I mean.

Rosanna was sculpted by Eiichi Ishida. Good job, man. Good job! Ishida’s Rosanna sculpt has the playful attitude of the illo. The hair, which I’ve heard being griped about, is indeed not the best part, but the total package more than makes up. He should at least get a pat on the back for actually rendering a nose. I don’t think I have any other figure with a nose complete with nostril indications.

Then again, Yamashita’s art isn’t exactly anime like where most of my other figures came from. I guess he gets lumped in with anime, manga, and video games to most western otaku, but I could easily see him as being like the Vargas of Japan. I don’t actually know, just letting my fingers hit random keys here.

One of the cool things about this Rosanna sculpt, she looks like she can actually weild that slim buster sword, yet doesn’t look at all butch. It’s the lips, okay it’s the eyes, but it’s also the lips. I wish her lips weren’t so well hidden in the end. I think they were slightly more visible in the prototype and on the picture on the box.

Information on Rosanna

  • Sweet Dreams Rosanna
  • 1/7 Scale PVC Figure (though it’s closer to most of my 1/6 scale figures)
  • Scultped by Eiichi Ishida
  • Made by Movic
  • Japanese release Late April 2007
  • US Release: Not as of May 16, 2007

Crassless Crass, Who Am I Kidding?

With doing these figurine shoots it’s difficult to resist the temptation of being a drooling idiot gleefully sticking the barrel of our lens everywhere that little demon inside us wants to go. But. I’m okay with that. :)

Note: For some of the shots, I reduced the appearance of join lines in her hair. The lines are quite visible up close, but due to her hair color, they blend in from a few feet away.

    Hehe.
“Gravity defying strapless pantsu” I like :)

Btw, how did you get the studio protrait effect in the 6th picture from the top? It’s really good!

    Great pictures!
Prolly the only figurine coming from Yamashita that I like
a mix with a more natural pose, her weird thighhighs and as you said so well, her strapless pantsu :)

hmm, maybe I should take her

Rosanna is great and I agree with you, Shunya figures are the more real in terms of body proportions but still I think those japanese exaggerate on the breasts. About your post I think you repeated yourself a bit on the pictures, the angles are the same but the background changes. The only thing I don’t like in this figure is that thing serving as panties but the rest is just great, we can even see her nipples.

beautiful photos as usual super rats. seeing all these nice pictures of Shunya Yamashita figures is really poisoning me to get one myself. aiming for the new Non-Non figure as it seems i won’t be able to get Mirei

Belela-san, I knew that 15 shots was too many for this figure, since so many angles are closed off by her arm position. I just needed some time to figure out which ones to cut. There’s 11 shots now, which fits into the 10-12 I like to keep in the set.

Windbell, the order changed now that I deleted the pictures I wanted to delete, but if it’s the one I’m thinking of, all I did was desaturate the colors.

Yhamm, I am in agreement with you on her wardrobe.

Randall, she’s a decent sword chick.

Valho, yeah I might pick up Non Non as well.

    B-chiku !!!!! I’m in love with the last shot ^^;
That’s the kind of character I prefer from Yamashita, his girls with big weapons and some kind of armor/outfit that cover only the necessary :D

LianYL, was there a toy or figure ad on there?

Lu-K, Rosanna definitely has big weapons.

Danny, I classify it as sweet!

Everlasting, yes yes, they’ll point you in the right direction.

Adun, I was actually half expecting them to be a cast off feature since without any straps or anything it would be easy to remove.

ron~, a macro lens and I actually tried to make more landscape ones…will try to do better for the next one

What a photo shoot, amazing work as always. The ribbon effect adds such fluidity, nice. Out of the Shunya figures, I was most hyped up about Mirei, but after seein this I can’t wait to add Rosanna to my collection. This chick has a pretty hot design…that strapless pantsu will haunt me until I buy her. Thanks super rats

I like Rosanna, Non-Non, and Mirei. The rest of them, I’m not sold on yet, especially Rudy. There is a movie called Rudy, and at one point everyone chants “Rudy” over and over again. I can’t look at that Rudy figure without thinking of Samwise Gamgee (actor dude also played Rudy).

Wow, I can’t stop looking at that…thing she has between her legs.

I’m not a huge fan of Shunya’s work, but this figure does have a very nice pose, something about it…

God I love those close shots, I’m in love with her hips :]

Great photoshoot! Too bad her face is covered by her hair and arm. For me, the strongest part about Shunya figures are the faces. They’re just too lovely. Can’t wait to get Non-non =)

It would have been nice to have her face slightly more visible, but having her face hidden like that does add a little intrigue.
