“Welcome to Pia Carrot,” Says Sana
February 19th, 2007
If anyone went to Pia Carrot, wouldn’t it hurt? That probably qualifies as one of the dumbest opening lines ever. Anyway, there are a few figures I still have in boxes, but decided to take a break from all of the MaxFactory and Alter figures I’ve been shooting lately. Not that this shoot is a downgrade. Sana Horiuchi is probably the best put together 1/8 scale figure I’ve seen from Kotobukiya.
Sana comes from, Pia Carrot G.O., one of the Pia Carrot dating-sim adventures, nudge-nudge, wink-wink. I don’t actually know if she’s a real demon girl or if this is a normal girl in a costume, but it’s really not that important. She’s a cutie with demon wings dressed in a maid uniform — kicking out two fetishes in one figure.
Youzo Ogawa put a decent amount of detail into the sculpt of Sana. All of the frills on her dress and petticoat makes for great eye candy beyond the usual bfigure assets. Speaking of which, Sana comes with optional bust sizes. I liked the default size so just kept those, plus it seemed like too much of a hassle to swap in a piece I was just going to swap back out anyway. The embroidery on her thigh highs are a little thick, but that’s getting nit-picky.
The reverse bend of her arm looks incredibly painful (see picture above). I know some girls are really flexible, but that’s got to be pushing the limits of comfort. It all serves a good purpose though. Apparently, Sana feels the need to show us something in black.
As pretty as the figure is, there aren’t that many interesting angles, photographically speaking, so the girls from He Is My Master suggested that they have a mini-maid convention for the new girl. Really, they just wanted to check out her outfit. The joy of figures that don’t need a base.
The Review
Kotobukia has done a great job in manufacturing this figure. The number of paint artifacts are low, particularly in the hair where I find many Kotobukiya figures lacking, so it’s great to see that they can produce clean hair. Details are fairly crisp and the molding is above average. Any gripes I have about the figure, don’t come from a manufacturing issue, so if you like what you see in the photos, it’s likely a good pick-up.
Here’s to hoping that Kotobukiya can keep up the quality control.

Optional bust size?!?!? This one looks to be a good figure as Kotobukiya figures can be a hit and miss kind of thing. Great photos as usual and nice use of the Barbie bed furniture.

Bloody Fantastic!
The world should see your figure pics.
What would be cool is if you take a picture of the set each time so that we can see “behind the scenes”

Great photos as usual. I passed up on this, now I may have to reconsider because of you. I’ve got so much on preorder as it is and you’re costing me more money, thanks

Thanks guys.
Well, HLJ called it a bust size enlarge/reduction option, but looking at the pieces more closely I think it’s more like the default is her catching her top as it slips off, whereas the optional part is her top properly worn. The optional part does make her chest seem larger though.
A behind the scenes thing wouldn’t be a bad idea to give me something else to blog about. I keep trying to do something other than just figure reviews, but never seem to be able to finish them posts. Maybe I’ll have better luck finishing a behind the scenes post.

Woah. Seriously, I never even realised this figure existed. And now it’s hot. But Koto is crap, I swore off them. And I hate optional parts. A behind the scenes, brainstorm and others section would be good too.

What. lovely. pictures! You really made me regret not getting her.
I must be one of the few Kotobukiya supporters around. I believe they are very capable of excellent figures. Their problem is consistency. The best and ‘worst’ in my figure collection (err discounting Alter Fate Testarossa and Megahouse Princess Yumil that is XD) are both Koto goods.

I also have this figure in my collection and I really love it, I’m very happy to see her on my shelves every morning
I tried to put some pictures of her on my blog (http://figuj.free.fr/index.php/136/sana-horiuchi-devil-type-de-kotobukiya/) but as always when I see the pictures you do, I realize that I really need to improve my photographic skills ^^
Your pictures are beautiful, the little “maid convention” was a really good idea , and I agree with Danny : “Behind the scene” pictures would be welcome

I’ve taken the wait and see approach with Koto because I never really know if it’s going to be one of their good ones or one of their bad ones. I haven’t sworn off them yet like tj han, though I was pretty close to at one point.
Hopefully, I can find a way to do the next idea I have.
