Gendo locked Rei in his basement. She was a clone, so he didn’t see anything wrong with it. The original had run her course and that was that. This Rei was his to have and to hold for as long as she would last.
Review of Alter’s Rei Ayanami Rebuild Version
This is a great laying down pose. Rei’s got hips. The body sculpt conveys both long slenderness and feminine curves. The plug suit design frames her feminine elements for full appreciation. Great design all around.
The outfit detail is pretty good. The differentiation in texture rendering for the white and blue portions of her suit is effective. From the packaging and the low price point relative to other Alter figures leads me to think this is more of a mass market volume play than the typical Alter figure, but that’s just me wild guessing. As with most things, I have no clue.
Rei comes with a black slab base that looks really good in person and provides a cool reflection effect. As attractive as the base is, for space reasons I’ll probably not use it.
Other Stuff
On the Rei or Asuka question, I’ll say neither, but if forced to choose I’d say Rei since I like short haired character designs, plus the red eyes. Nobody in that show is likeable from an outsider’s point of view, though I kind of feel bad for all of them, even if they all kind of annoy me at the same time.
The base compliments the figure well, seen here at Foobarbaz.
That matter-of-fact first paragraph is the most chilling thing I’ve read all day!
And one more figure for my wishlist. Plugsuits are too sexy for this world^^
This dark atmoshphere with that small amount of light is really well fitting!
Nice, I’ve got several Ayanami clones right here too ^^. Still, the ending of the anime. I still don’t understand it. What the heck happened? :S First there was a lot of fighting of angels, then a bug corporation around that, scheming in the background. Then the last 2-3 episodes, I really don’t know what to think of that. But Rei is really cooler than Asuka. I gotta get this one too, but I don’t have a place in which she would be visible, I mean I only have racks she can stand on, but because she lies down I can’t see her …

i almost splurged on get rei, but then i realized, I’ve got like 4 rei figrues as it is and nothing about her screamed BUY ME BUY ME BUY ME! Now i kinda regret that. That’s when you know you’ve done a good photo shoot, when you make people who didn’t want it at first go dang now i want one for myself.

This is one of the few figures I can say that I don’t find anything wrong or doesn’t have something I don’t like. For me she’s almost perfect (nothing is perfect
), I’ll have to think hundreds of time in acquiring her but still need to check with my bank account first

Hirvine, other than those Grimrock Rei and Asuka figures, I don’t have any, so this is my first real Rei, since those Grimrock figures were like catgirl Rei and monkey girl Asuka.

Bunch of years ago it would’ve been Rei over Asuka, then Misato over either. Now I like both Asuka and Misato but Asuka overall… mostly because Asuka is has a colorful personality. Rei is just bland XD
It looks to me as if the figure was based on Yoshiyuki Sadamoto’s illustatrations. Yay because I like his style ^_^
Interesting choice of pose for the figure. A lot of the Eva figures seem to figure more reclined positions, kind of striking as a trend for them.

Yummy Rei. Still a classic even if there are a bajillion figures of her. The Alter Rei is the best rendition of her I’ve seen so far.

Yukionna, I’m not sure what you mean by closed in, but it’s on a tabletop, so there’s not a whole lot of room. The tutorials tab has a couple of shots of the basic setup. Closed in space-wise, yes, but it’s not shot inside of a box if that’s what you’re asking.

Ahh last time I’ve found a Rei figure, I thought it would be the last one (Kotobukiya)… but man, this one looks really nice. I was a bit worried about the lying pose, wich isn’t always easy to display, but well… this Rei is great.

Do I need to explain? 14-year-olds don’t have those curves yet – I’m sorry – but they just don’t – especially for Asians – and especially for a malnutritioned one. Alter always makes Rei (more so than Asuka) look like a 21-year-old slut. If 14-year-olds looked like that, pedophilia (lolicon in otaku terms) would increase tenfold.
I haven’t watched the series yet so I prefer neither atm. Her position was one of the main attractions in wanting her. As most figures are standing upright, I find it’s kinda cool to have a lying down one.
Sadly, the low Aussie dollar was again the main reason why I canceled her. T_T
