Funimation released the School Rumble season one box set this past week and I snapped it up as soon as I saw it. This was a title I watched via Netflix and much anticipated the collected edition, which has the episodes on four discs with the extras on another dvd. It’s three thinpak cases packed within a lightweight cardboard box, so good for those of us who battle with storage space.
In case you don’t know what School Rumble is, it isn’t a fighting anime as ‘rumble’ might suggest. It’s a situational high-school comedy where pretty much all the main players all like someone. These crushes aren’t mutual, but are more like a circle. A likes B who likes C who likes D, etc.
Harima rocks. He totally makes the show in my opinion. He’s the guy who has it for the main character, Tenma, who is of course oblivious. It’s not all Harima though. Each character has time to do their thing, which helps keep it from getting monotonous, but he gets the A-list gags in the series.
If you’re into watching anime dubbed, then School Rumble is pretty good. Luci Christian, as expected, does fine as Tenma and Brandon Potter sticks in my head as Harima.
Now comedies usually don’t work very well after the first pass, but School Rumble has got a certain heartfelt charm to it that carries the show even when you already know the jokes. Plus I do like how there’s a few recurring situations that move some of these relationships along.
I rewatch almost everything I have, so I may be a bit more tolerant when it comes to rewatchability, but I enjoyed going through it again. There’s so many gags that I forgot some of them from the first time and got to laugh at it again.
I absolutely love School Rumble.
I recently rewatched both seasons and really enjoyed it.Harima is just so damn hilarious and hes the one whos keeping the show on a fast pace.My favorite situations are the ones involving Harima and Eri.I just cant stop smiling when i think about what happened on the trip on the beach.
Another one of my Highlights was the Battle Royale they had in the second season.
Id love to see some more school rumble figures.There were some swimsuit figures released by MaxFactory or GSC if i remember right but they dont tickle my fancy.
I preordered a cheap Sega Tenma thats going to be released in December.Im not expecting anything great but its worth a try for 8 €.

School Rumble is on my watch list as well. I haven’t had the chance to aquire it or borrow it from a friend or whatnot, but I keep hearing good things about it. That and about Eri being awesome.
School Rumble is, with Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu? one of the rare comedy I have already watched more than twice and love to rewatch ^^
Harima sure rocks. Eri is a great “tsundere”-like character. I also find that Akira is an amazing character (more in ni gakki actually). Lala (and mostly her seiyuu) is amazing. And at last, I am in love with Yakumo ^^;
i have only seen the first episode of the series a long time ago and it was pretty funny. now that the complete collection is out, i’m going to pick it up.
I like Eri, she’s probably my favorite of the girl characters. She seems to be popular among fans.

I never pick up this series and it’s going up to season 3 already ^^;;. How does this compare to Azumanga Daioh ? Is it better ? I love Azumanga Daioh so much especially Osaka-san due to her stupidity ^^.
AD and SR are pretty different flavors even though they sort of have the same things going for it. School Rumble is louder than AzuDai, but they both have that core to them that makes them more than some high school gag comedy. School Rumble throws in Harima, who is teh awesome.
They’re both good.
