HappySoda Elsewhere

max_small.jpgThis probably isn’t worthy of a post, but here goes. Some of my figure pictures are in or are going to be in a couple of magazines. Pictures of Ryuna will be inside MAX magazine. MAX is a Mexican magazine like Maxim and FHM, something leaning toward mainstream, which is interesting. MAX sent me an image of the page layout (see left, courtesy of MAX). Pictures I took of Pachira are in an issue of Mondo, a Hungarian anime magazine — I haven’t yet seen how that one turned out.

Can’t wait for my copies of both to arrive. I know I’ll be totally clueless when trying to read Mondo. At least with MAX I might be able to piece enough of it together, though trying to read the text in the layout page I realize just how much Spanish I have forgotten, not that I really knew much just a couple of years of it in high school and university. I think the Mondo issue already came out. Not sure when MAX will hit the racks in Mexico, but it should be sometime soon.

  7. tj han

Haha, that’s exotic! Hungary and Spain? But the interesting thing is that they aren’t anime magazines.

I’ve been busy like heck, but I figure I could at least leave a quick “congrats super rats!” for a fellow figure collector in arms ;)

  17. Seiken / VMan of Mana

First of all, congratulations. Nice to know that your photography made to a more “mainstream” publications, and props to the magazine editors for giving proper credit. I am kind of surprised by the choice; I would have predicted Neige or Ignis to appear instead of Ryuna. This will sound weird, but I kind of wish the focus was a bit different. I guess I find the idea of “lust over plastic” (or as a collector, being associated to it) a bit uncomfortable :p

Anyways, I am from Mexico, so here goes a translation.

    Title: Plastic desire.
Lead: Japanese anime exposes lust and transforms it from drawings into little(1) “accion” figures.
    Body:
Ryuna is her name, and though its like she came out of your most extravagant fantasies, in reality she was sculped in PVC and painted by Saito Heel, toy master who works for Max Factory, Japanese enterprise whose name couldn’t be better fitting (2). Anyways, for those not familiar with her, she is a main character of the game Shining Tears, created by Sega for Playstation; and this figure made in 1/7 scale is part of the new series released to market last June. Of course the most important are the pictures, so admire them.

    Notes:
    • Translation is rather literal.
    • choice of words can be a bit funny. English and Spanish may have some very similar or ‘equivalent’ words, but they might change in meaning or how to be used.
    • Spanish writing favors long, sometimes wordy, sentences with ideas separated by comma or colon. In contrast, English writing prefers shorter sentences.
    (1) 1/7 is small? =)
    (2) “afortunado” literally means “fortunate”. “name couldn’t be any more fortunate” doesn’t makes a lot of sense here, so I think they mean to say “the name is spot on”.

    Hey, right on!

Grats on getting published, that’s pretty awesome!

  19. Adun

Now this is rather interesting as well since I was also asked by Mundo if they could publish some of my photos of the Manabi figure. I’ve yet to see anything come up from them but at least some of my work is getting out there.

  20. Belela-san

Congratulations, I think I told you that one day your pictures would come out in a magazine or you should try to make a photography book, well one part is done the next part is the photography book of your part ^^.

I could try to translate since I’m Portuguese and I understand and can read Spanish but since a natural Mexican (Seiken / VMan of Mana) already translated it I don’t need to try and translate it.

    And again congratulations.

  21. Almost A Hero

That is pretty amazing. Especially considering the fact that MAX is a pretty mainstream magazine. I agree with Seiken a little about the “lust over plastic” bit, but these magazine are generally a bit over-the-top and sensationalist to begin with, so it has it’s own warped logic.

Anyway, congratulations! That is totally awesome.

  22. DarkMirage

Heh. Mondo used my photos of Mahoro too. My issue arrived a few days ago and I’ve to say that those Hungarians make better anime magazines than Singapore publishers. For shame… D:

  23. Pange

That’s so cool that your photographs are being published!

  24. AS

Wow, you’re finally being published, congrats ^^. Any bonus being offered by the magazines for being published?

  25. Zeroblade

Wow, they say that it’s when you get published in a magazine or print media that you get really famous. Even though it’s in Spain or Hungary.

  26. Belela-san

Well it would depend super rats, when I mentioned a photobook it doesn’t have to be a big book, but I think most of us would buy one copy ^^

  27. howieh

    nice~u earned it!

  28. Seiken / VMan of Mana

I forgot to say. “Nipón” (or in this case “Nipona”) is often used as synonym of “Japonés” (or Japonesa). Its pretty much a borrowing of the Japanese “Nippon”.

  29. coeli

    Congratulations!

I’ve been wondering whether your pictures have already been published elsewhere, so I guess this is the first time?

You deserve it, super rats ^^
