Goofy episodes in non-wacky shows, do you love them or hate them? I guess it depends on the episode or series itself, but generally I like the goofy episodes much of the time. In Eureka Seven the goofy episodes are helped out by some of the fun stuff that goes on as normal in every episode, so they’re not that far out of place.
This time around on Eureka Seven, the Gekko State is on its way to The Great Wall, the military is after them, so naturally a soccer break is in order. Nay. Mandatory according to Norb. Thank goodness they were playing small field soccer. While I do appreciate the game of soccer on the big field, it’s sometimes a big snooze when 90 go by and jack happens because of how much movement it takes to get the ball into a real scoring opportunity. It didn’t bother me in high school, but I over the last couple of years it has.
But like every episode of Eureka Seven this goofy episode lets us know the characters some more. Even at episode 39, we’re still understanding more about Renton. It was a good reminder about how isolated he was growing up. After that we get three episodes of the main plot moving forward and Norb’s back story (I like Norb, but in limited doses).
Anemone shows up and scraps with Holland. It’s good to see her kick butt for a change. Usually something happens to derail her assault or she gets derailed mentally, but something about her has changed which makes her the terrifying pilot she’s supposed to be. Her exchange with Dominic before she takes off with TheEND was one of my favorites in this set of episodes — I really dig Kari Wahlgren as Anemone. Fascinated to see how the character turns out, especially since it’s starting to look like Dewey no longer considers her valuable.
There’s also a new opening song starting at Episode 40. It starts off with a techno pass at Amazing Grace that melts into another catchy tune.
Eureka 7 has always been one of my favorites. “Sakura” by NIRGILIS isn’t the best OP in my opinion, but it was definitely fitting for the show.
I like all of the OPs. The one that I thought was the catchiest was “To the Center of the Sun”, found myself humming that every now and then.
This ep is the only filler ep in the whole 50 ep series, I think.
A couple of the early episodes felt like filler to me, but if I go back and watch them again they might not. I’m thinking of the episode where they have Renton dress up in that purple track suit. Some things might have been going on in the background though. Been so long.^^;
Hmm..the early episodes are certainly not fillers…they’re still contributing to the main plot BUT they could have been cut short and still deliver the plot. the length of the plot is long for a reason though – I think it’s to spread the emotions slowly and thoroughly.
That particular soccer filler episode is really funny. and the OST rocks too. still has Sakura in my playlist =)

surfing robots were kinda weird but watching a bit more, I found this anime really good ^^
The surfing robots had me smiling from the get go, even if I kept thinking why the hell are they surfing?
Dude, surfing robots! Totally! I mean, sure, E7 has a great story, interesting characters, and plenty of emotional tug o war, but, c’mon, surfing robots? It doesn’t get any better!
