I’ve been so busy lately that I actually have a backlog of everything, not just anime, but my other loser activities as well. Times like these I go for funny and junky stuff like My-Otome, that admittedly, is not quite as good as taco rice (an Epic Win), which is actually healthy while still being junky, and that’s enough to rank taco rice higher than My-Otome, a show that probably isn’t healthy at all. Still, I think I’ll take My-Otome every time, no matter how much trans fat it may have.

Poor cheeky monkey. Far away, yet so close.
I got a kick out of episode nine, which gets you thinking it would be a beach episode mwa-ha-ha-ha so quickly after the wrong-but-great invisible eels in the pool episode. Wahoo! Denied. Apparently, there’s this rule that Otome cannot take their clothes off in public. How draconian! It’s tough to say who’s more disappointed in the end, poor desert born Arika or the otaku cheering for their favorite monkey to reach the sea?
What a gyp. Somewhere in Sunrise Studios, I can imagine a Japanese Nelson pointing his finger at us and going “ha-ha”.
In these episodes (dvd vol.3 is eps. 9-12) the main plot line appears to be gathering momentum. Main plot equals combat. Yes! Shizuru is cool. I really dig her weapon that goes from double-bladed sword to a spiked chain in a flash. Too bad the fight was over too quickly.

I love the Otome transformation sequences and the command readout on their gems. Can’t wait for the intensity of the action to ratchet up like it did in My-Hime for the second half. I hear some complaints about the amount of fluff in the first half of both series, but I think the fluff is what makes me enjoy the show and makes the impending drama of the second half fun as well. My tastes might be changing too, because My-Otome is the show I most look forward to watching, even though some other shows I appreciate more, like Beck. It’s just fun.
I do wonder what Nagi is up to. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.
It’s actually the new standard, in case you were wondering.
I was just about to check Wikipedia about that. Thanks for saving me the trip.
