Yuki Nagato, the resident alien observing Haruhi Suzumiya, has some pretty strange ideas about comfortable living. Her apartment is almost completely empty save for a table and an endless supply of tea. There aren’t even any books in her apartment. Strange. Anyway, I shouldn’t have expected anything different when she decided to take me her summer home. Other than a white picket fence, there wasn’t anything there but a trio of baby chicks. For an alien taking orders from a supreme data entity, she’s a few columns short of a spreadsheet.
“Nagato, what’s the deal with the chicks,” I asked, not that she’d give an answer that would make any sense, though it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that they too are watching Miss Suzumiya. Everything seems too conveniently connected lately.
She paused for a second, “they’re Miss Suzumiya’s.”
Of course.
The daylight began to darken and none of the other SOS Brigade members showed up. I began to think of an appropriate penalty for the last straggler. Yuki wasn’t much help coming up with a penalty and I soon gave up on the idea. I did manage to get her to pose for some “test-shots”, so the day wasn’t a total waste of time. As unlikely as it may seem, I know Yuki has her share of fans who wouldn’t mind seeing some shots of her. There’s way more to Yuki than her robotic way of talking to people suggests. Sometimes I wonder if Yuki would crash if she ran any emotional data.
Review of Yuki Nagato
This is a first run Yuki that has been sitting in a box for a while. I’ve been too busy or too computer-challenged to do a review. Of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya figures released so far from Max Factory, Yuki is the best one as far as production value goes. It a pretty cool figure.
Yuki comes with several options: standard school uniform, sweater version, and the witch version from episode 00, though it’s missing the cat! And the Gibson! Right now I’ve got her in the sweater while wearing the witch hat. She also comes with two pair of glasses, but I couldn’t tell the difference between them and is now moot since my dog snagged the other pair of glasses and chewed it to bits. All the pieces fit very well.
The quality of Yuki is above that of Haruhi and Mikuru, which for the higher price tag should be the case. The paint is cleaner than Haruhi’s and she doesn’t lean right out of the box like Mikuru (Mikuru’s lean hasn’t changed any since I got her, but it’s still annoying that her pose is crooked due to a poorly designed peg mount). Seams are evident on clothing, but their presence is much lower on the skin, save on the curled fingers and the typical hairline seam.
It’s just a winner all around with a good likeness and body language that fits the character. Thank goodness there were outfit changes, because I’d be stuck with just four pictures for this shoot if there weren’t.

Strange, your pictures this time round seem a little glossy in some of them. But there are quite a few excellent ones as usual. I myself have tonnes of new stuff backlogged for review too, it’s becoming a huge pain to bring outdoors as boxes get bigger and bigger.
I didn’t really have time to fiddle around with the lights to reduce the glossiness, plus I’m on a laptop instead of my usual monitor so the contrast and brightness might be off of what I usually feel is right. Even though both screens are calibrated via the same piece of hardware, the two screens render color and contrast slightly differently at the extremes.
Ha, mine has been sitting here for months as well. I don’t think I’ll ever get to clear my backlog anytime soon with work and all. Also I agree that it’s nice she has some accessories, otherwise there wouldn’t be much of a review.
I haven taken her out of the box yet. Just can’t get around to shooting her with all my schoolwork and wow.
Nice photos again~
I still haven’t got a single Haruhi figure but this Yuki is tempting me…
The accessories are a nice touch to the figure.
Lovely shots as always, being a Yuki fan over the other characters I’m glad MF decided to give her the best treatment and it certainly shows ^^ Just missing the MF and Nendoroid Mikurus to complete both trios – and while the Nendoroid is ridiculously cute, MF Mikuru’s pose does irk me as well which is probably why I’m taking my time getting her.
Seems like we all have keep this figure a long time in its box. And mine is still in, so as few other figures ^^;
I like the last shot with Haruhi, but Yuki’s skin is much more white. Anyway, these pictures are fantastic, long time not see your work hehe.
I wish I will be able to grab Yuki’s cat… that’s the only thing I have to complain about this figure ;_;
From her appearance she so looks like a fragile character. Who would have thought of her being an alien. Max Factory did a good job on capturing her emotions (or better non-existing emotions).
Whaaat? Is one of baby chicks peaking beneath Yuki’s skirt? =O
Great review and photos! Really admire your effort with the background/sets. I love this Yuki figure so much that I couldn’t help but get a second one. orz
Start selling posters., or maybe you can sell me the franchise to sell your posters.
I’ve stopped shooting all of the figures I get. Another reason I didn’t open Yuki for a while is I had run out of shelf space, but I’ve fixed that for now.
Wow…Yuki’s face seemed so full of emotions…I say even better made than Haruhi’s
Nice story to go along with the pics ^^. It’s interesting how she came with a bunch of accessories, I normally only see a few compared to what Yuki has. Max Factory did a good job with Yuki especially with her being able to stand without a base yet still retain her character without a outlandish pose.
Great pictures! The one with Haruhi and Yuki together really encapsulates their relationship on the show. I have yet to get any Haruhi related stuff (other than DVDs) but I just might buy these figures.
Yuki from Max Factory is a cutie although I still prefer the witch version than the normal school girl cause the witch cape hides a bit of her legs which I find some sort of a downfall in this figure. Now only Mikuru school version is missing from the set, I don’t know why MaxFact prefered to release a type of maid instead of a school girl
Belela-san, I feel the same way about the Mikuru figure.
great job, i really like the first one and the one with lots of sunflower. the small chicks are cute ^^
