Finally got around to finishing Another. Typical of the “sinister mysterious thing in this town” genre, the ride to the end, the accumulation of idle thoughts speculating on the details, while waiting on traffic lights to change during my daily commute, wound up far more interesting than the final destination. Having expected as much, a disappointing conclusion wasn’t exactly a disappointment. That said, I loved every minute of the tease and even the over-the-top grand melee that pops the tension bubble. Broad, unspecific spoilers might happen.
Actually, as much as I enjoyed the over-the-top finish. I found it undermined the show a little bit, in that the excessive nature of it contrasted enough with the restrained pacing of the rest of the story, that the foreboding doom of the previous episodes gave way to dark slap-stick comedy. But, then this sort of grand melee ending made the most sense as a release valve given all the setting and stage details of the story.
It becomes a who lives, who dies, and who remains true tallying up, but Another could have done a better job of setting the stakes for the characters throughout the series. Part of the comedy in this grand melee stems from a lack of empathy for any of the characters. It’s fine that most of the characters existed to die. I don’t need to care about all of them, but the principal characters could have offered more reasons to care. If it weren’t for my predisposition for liking twin-tailed rich girl Mary Sue characters, I might not have had any other characters to root for other than the obligatory rooting for the main characters. The violence felt like wasted opportunities for the story to get a “No, not them!” type of reaction out of me, which instead had me giggling at gruesome ends and pondering if they needed to go there with bodily fluids. At least Another didn’t go the opposite end of the spectrum of trying too hard to make me the viewer care.
The story concludes and answers enough questions to end it satisfactorily, even if the status quo of the town hasn’t changed at all. The reveal of the extra person was good, not a cop-out nor cheap and obfuscated well. The students who survived, survived this year’s Calamity, but they didn’t stop it for future generations. It’s enough and I’m glad they didn’t reveal everything about how this Calamity works. We really don’t need to know.

Overall I liked this show a lot, the creepy suspense at the beginning was great.
What I mainly disliked about it was that I couldn’t feel empathy for any of the classmates of Misaki and Kouchi. In fact I really disliked them
The deaths in the last few episodes where quite amusing because of that.
I guess that wasn’t the intention of Another, but anyway I liked the kind of ending, a kind of good end with a spooky aftertaste.
Sadly the anime ended but luckily the manga is still continuing on with a diffrent storyline.
Loved it. Great everything. I don’t even need to go into a big speech about how much I loved it. It was just a wonderful experience that I never really have tied with such a short series before. It’s sad that it is now over, but all good things must come to an end.
sometimes onether ending can be good
the suspense is really good.
But you didn’t think its copy from previous one?
Thanks
Richard
knowing that this anime just ended but my curiosity on it will just starting i love this type of anime genres but i can’t watch it because my attention is taken by the famous anime series and manga that still going on but now that this anime just ended i will be able to download it and watch it at home while waiting for the next release of episode and chapters of the anime that i used to watch lately like naruto fairytail and etc. i do this also in shakugan no shana III final and and yesterday i just finished watching it.
I loved this anime. I found it really interesting and as many have said, found it quite amusing how the ending episode showed the deaths of the remaining students. At times it just seemed a little too unrealistic but it is a curse after all… The one thing I didn’t like about the ending was how Reiko turned out to be the teacher. Maybe I just turned a blond eye to it while I was watching or or something, but never did I remember them mentioning that Reiko was the teacher. I jut got so freaked out an even went back to old episodes to see if I missed it but…. It just confused me that part cause I’m not even sure if Kouchi knew if she was the teacher so… But without a doubt love the anime over all and wish it would continue.
