Probably won't get something like that in an anime, since they do have to streamline things for pacing reasons and it's not really a show that wants to get bogged down in details...at least those kinds of details. Still, curious though. I'm also not all that clear how global the effort is, I might have forgotten the scenario if they've mentioned it already. I felt like I was watching the wrong show ;( but I agree with you that the rest of this show was nice.
