When anime girls find themselves in a rush, late for school, an appointment, or a date, with a high degree of certainty it means they’re going to trip and if they’re going to trip undergarments will be flashed. So long as it’s in a raunchy comedy, that’s a nice bonus. It’s kind of annoying when a show that is trying to be more serious goes for a cheap flash, but that’s for another blog entry that I’ll probably never write. Judging from this figure, it appears that Yuukanalia, a character from the Enchanter manga, was in a rush and tripped on some phantom piece of sidewalk.
This 1/6 scale figure from MaxFactory was sculpted by Takahiro Hashimoto. She’s pretty and pretty busty. Even if busty girls aren’t your thing, you still have to admit she has a cute face, with sweet eye decals.
Yuukanalia hit stores in late December 2006, an exclamation point to a great year for pvc figures. Even among such a great crop of figures, she stands out as being a unique figure with the way she’s suspended, held in three spots — a metal post into her foot, the books and briefcase pillar, and another metal post that bears most of the weight that goes through her hip (which is blocked in the picture above). One of the first things you’ll notice when unwrapping the figure is how heavy she is, so those posts definitely need the extra strength of metal, instead of the usual plastic. The triple support points should keep Yuukanalia from warping.
Her wings are made of a rigid plastic, so they’ll keep their shape. They attach to a little ball type thing that you have to push into the small of her back, and it can be a little tricky getting it in all the way. Once in, it seems to be a very secure fit.
Hashimoto really did a great job on the Yuukanalia sculpt, offering collectors something different with the pose. The detail work looks great in person and in photos, from the clothing folds on her vest and skirt to the open book below that has legible Latin (I’m guessing) text. All of the details are a nice bonus to an awesome sculpt.
The hair impressed me a lot, some of the nicest pvc figure hair that I’ve seen, going from a vivid blue to an energetic pinkish purple. I like how the strands dangle and flow and how they end with sharp points. What really struck me as being A+ was the paint application of her hair is so smooth and clean that it starts looking silky, or at least as silky as painted pvc hair can get.
MaxFactory’s rich paint application to Yuukanalia is nearly flawless. The only paint clot I found was a small spot on her vest, pointed away from the typical view angle. Shading looks great on both her clothing and her skin, and not overbearing, resulting in a clean healthy looking glow for our Yuukanalia. Sometimes manufacturers just go crazy with the skin shading around the knees and around the neck. Yuukanalia’s overall skin tone is on the paler side of the spectrum, which maybe lets them go light on the shading and gets the blush on her face to look cute.

To me the only problem with this Yuukanalia figure is her gratuitous pose. It’s difficult to look at her face without her defined camel-toe pointed right at the viewer (I know some of you are scratching your head wondering what’s the problem with that). So that’s a heads up to those considering it, who may have someone watching what gets put into their collection. I have my own place so I can get as depraved as I can stand, but it’s just this pose is a little blatant with the fanservice. However, in the grand scheme of things, it’s a-okay with me. I like pretending that I am not a pervert.
Still, for a such a busty figure gratuitously posed, Yuukanalia feels more cute than sexy, especially if you’re paying closer attention to her face. Often times a cute face like Yuukanalia’s feels loli or moe, but I don’t get that vibe with her. I could be wrong about that or maybe I’m just trying to avoid feeling too dirty for owning this figure. Either way she looks great on the shelf.
Overall
MaxFactory caps off 2006 with an awesome figure that I highly recommend to anyone on the fence about getting her. Sure, she’s a little expensive, but she is worth the yen. Construction quality in terms of mold lines and injection artifacts is above average, but not void of them. Paint quality is outstanding.

Very awesome figure which I was planning to purchase. But not anymore due to money (a lack of). I don’t see any cameltoe though. For me, the best parts are the pose and the books.

I was planning to get this one, but for some reason I couldn’t get over the color of the arm stockings… or whatever you call them. hand-less forearm gloves? Still, she is an excellent build that further proves my point about the excellence of Max Factory, bar none. NONE!
Although, I did just get my Kokonoe Rin today, and MAN! I love Max’s 1/6 work. Though, Rin’s base was regrettable as it ended up just being a green circle.
Also, I’ve noticed we order a lot of the same figures, rats. I salute for your amazing taste in figures. (not-biased at all)
Oh, and I just recently came into a Canon G3, so I will be doing some figure shoots in the near future (likely when I get my Nagi/gosurori Ryomou.). I am planning to do all my good figures dating back a while. I WILL BEST YOU, SIR! Not really… I just love photography and always wanted to do some figure shoots. I might best Han though. Haha. I bet he hates me by now.
I get the feeling that the folks at MaxFactory took umbrage at the perception that sister company Alter was the best of the GSC corp. and have been trying for the past year to dispell that opinion. A lot of it will be personal preference, but I do think Alter still has the edge when it comes overall sharpness of molding and having the fewest artifacts (injection scars, mold lines, paint clots).
Good luck with the pictures. It’s really a lot of fun trying to figure out the best way to shoot a particular figure.

If you want to wait for the US release Twin Moons Anime has it for pre-order. I use them for figures that I wait for the US release and have been happy with the speed of processing and the way they pack the figures. There’s also RightStuf, which is also reliable, but they charge list price.
If you want it sooner, you’ll have to order it from Japan, HLJ or Hobby Search are reputable stores.

No problem. It’s been a while, but I do remember having to use a bit of force to get the metal rod into her side. I guess they want to make sure the support doesn’t pop out at some point.
